Interesting Posts and Articles #4

1. Senator Chuck Schumer on torture:

I think it is courageous of him to put forth this unpopular opinion, but one he believes is the truth. A good change from typical politics.

2. BlogInDm goes to jail
"He wanted to know if I would be willing to come up with him and two other well-known singers to perform for the Jewish prisoners at the Otisville Federal Penitentiary upstate on the night before Shavuot. Although I was not convinced that it fell into the category of a "mitzvah gig", I volunteered to do it so long as he would drive me there and back. I figured that if nothing else, I'd get a good story out of it. As expected, I did."
3. An Indian girl with eight limbs
Being venerated, but also to be operated upon. We can understand how the stories of deities with multiple limbs might have come about.

4. JewishBlogMeister introduces SimchaTree band quotes:
"It matters not on the size or type of affair, Simchatree.com can help you find the best music for the best price, period. SimchaTree's slogan is "when bands compete you win" and I believe that's exactly what you'll find."
5. DovBear has a post on Rashi and Tikkun Soferim.
DovBear has a knack for presenting things which even some classic meforshim say in a way that sounds extremely heretical. Really, this is an acceptable opinion, from the likes of the Midrash Tanchuma, the Aruch, the Matnot Kehuna, and so *if* Rashi holds this as well, good for him. Note of course that even various supercommentaries would in fact consider this opinion heretical. The point of the post there was more along the lines of why certain Chumash translations included the variant, quasi-heretical text, and others did not. I posted a few comments there, and am thinking of posting here on parshablog on the subject.
