Eruv warning notice for Kew Gardens Hills

Received via email:
Rabbi Bergman just advised me that Rabbi Steinberg told him that the KGH Eruv will not be able to be checked today. Because of the storm there is a distinct possibility that the Eruv might be down.

People should take this into account before carrying anything outdoors this Shabbos.

Sorry to kill the messenger, but that's the worst shul notice I've ever seen. If I'm getting that, I have no idea if I'm allowed to carry on shabbat. If this was the only message, then the Rabbi really dropped the ball.

this was an early message in the day (from a non-rabbi), and i think it was sufficient to convey that unless told otherwise, assume that the eruv is down.

but there were several other messages throughout the day, from rabbis, including the following:
"Dear Friends,

Rabbi Steinberg informed me that the Eruv must be considered down for Shabbos.
It has been checked, with enough sagging and downed trees to cast suspicion on its intactness.

Please make provision for children, keys, and those with difficulty walking. If
you need any guidance in navigating the situation, feel free to contact me."
